Peak Shaving vs. Emergency Facility Backup
Commercial energy storage systems are deployed with two primary operational objectives: economic demand management (peak shaving) and critical load backup resilience.
In peak shaving applications, smart software monitors facility power draw in real time. The moment consumption threatens to breach a predefined threshold, the battery automatically injects power into the facility switchgear, capping the recorded utility peak.
In backup resilience applications, the system is configured to sustain essential circuits—such as server rooms, emergency lighting, climate controls for sensitive inventory, and security systems—during grid outages, operating independently or in tandem with existing backup generators.
